The new Economy Site!0 Comment(s)

I wanted to take a second with this blog and tell you about the newest website package I have to offer. The Chevtek Economy Site (I know, real clever name. Haha) is hopefully going to be the solution to yours and my problems. The Economy Site is a smaller version of the sites I build for each of my clients. Any elements of the larger sites I've built that can be shrunken down and easily duplicated are in this package. The idea is that I build this site once and am then able to sell it over and over again because it's not specifically customized for any one person. You as the client are responsible for customizing the appearance of the Economy Site through the user friendly system that is built right into it.

This site obviously won't be as extravagant as most of the sites in my portfolio, but it will be much better than most other "template" sites. If you've ever used a template site before then you are probably familiar with how difficult the can actually be to customize. They give you so many options that it can be quite confusing to learn how to use it all. The Economy Site is simplified so that there is almost no way to make the site look bad. It comes pre-installed with several themes/layouts to choose from. I will add more themes and more tools as time goes on. After that it only lets you change a few minor things like background, banner style, etc within the theme you choose. This makes it really easy to customize and almost impossible to make your visitors' eyes bleed! lol. That way I can stand behind all sites with the "Powered by Chevtek" logo at the bottom; I won't have to be worried that a client may have customized it poorly, which could reflect poorly on myself when potential new customers visit that person's site.

The one thing you do have total and complete control over is the content of the site. You can add pages and edit them with ease. The idea for Economy Site spawned out of the need to come up with a service I could provide that people could afford. Until now I've only taken on higher end clients and really poured my creativity into making sites that really stand out. I am absolutely still willing to take on those projects, but I know times are tough. I know that people are looking for websites for their businesses and I hate to see them opt for the cheap sites and get cheap results. I need to sell some sites to keep the bills paid so I came up with this idea that will hopefully be a win for everyone!

As always, whether you hire me to build your site or someone else, I wish you great success! May your website bring you the business you deserve. Have a great week everyone!

IP Address Misconceptions0 Comment(s)

If you spend a lot of time online, playing games or browsing social media, you've probably had someone threaten to hack your computer in a petty argument. Oftentimes they will claim to have your IP address and that they can do all kinds of malicious things to your computer with it. I've encountered this many times and the bottom line is that is not true. However, I have listened to many people tell me how worried they were after hearing that. I decided to write a blog to try and clarify some of the misconceptions about your IP address and about "hacking" in general.

NOTE: This post is for the technically savvy. Feel free to read it if you like, but if you don't understand it then do not worry. From time to time I have a geeky moment and I feel like this is the perfect medium to share it.

Today I worked my fingers raw typing out code for ReferralNetworX.com and I decided to take a break. When I came back to the computer I didn't feel like working right away so I called a friend and we got to talking about gambling. Somehow we started talking about Blackjack and whether or not the house had an advantage since it has to play by house rules. I suggested that house rules (hitting anything below 17) must pay off for them because the casino runs all day and all night. In the long run it must be profitable.

Free One-Page Website!0 Comment(s)

Welcome to my latest project, DicedOnions.com! Diced Onions is a free service that offers you a one-page website that is customizable by you. There are no ads and no fees, just your very own website. I cannot say what has compelled me to build a service like this and give it away for free. I guess you could call it an online experiment. I chose the name because it was easy to remember and I was very surprised to find that it was not taken. All you have to do is sign up for your free account and then go to your brand new homepage that it creates for you. While logged in your home page displays many controls for modifying your page content and design. Colors, graphics, and even the page title is all customizable by you. I purposely kept the features to a minimum to create the simplest and most seamless experience I could.
